Industrial cleaning covers many applications that use centralised wash down systems, including the cleaning of recycled IBC (Industrial Bulk Container) totes/tanks and plastic pallets. These are often commonly used in the pharmaceutical supply chain, but can also be used in many other industries to, for example, transport raw materials and packaging components used in the production process, through to the delivery of finished packaged products to distribution centres.
A growing market for industrial centralised wash down systems is the cleaning of IBC’s. With the current focus on reducing waste plastic material, (IBC’s being made of polypropylene or polyethylene) the cleaning and reuse of IBC’s has created a growing industry to clean IBC’s, both internally and externally, using high-pressure water.
High-pressure water has several advantages over chemical based cleaning, specifically the effective removal of deposits and easier waste water disposal. The additional advantages of an industrial centralised wash down system, using high-pressure triplex plunger pumps, is that the pump does not suffer the problem of lime scale build up, which is common on pitot type rotary pumps. Another advantage is that they can be easily serviced in-situ, thereby reducing maintenance time and costs.
Other applications of industrial cleaning include conveyor belt and train/truck washes that are often set up to have a central pump system, to run multiple guns/lances that need to produce enough flow to cover peak demand.
Wash-Saver | Pitot Pump Tube Comparison | Case Studies |
Cat Pumps Wash-Saver pump package has been developed for centralised hygiene and sanitation cleaning systems; using water only when it is required. The Wash-Saver is a fixed, multiple gun/lance pressure wash down system, utilising our high-pressure plunger pumps, in combination with a variable speed controlled motor arrangement. |
Two pump styles commonly used in industrial high-pressure cleaning applications include triplex positive displacement pumps and pitot centrifugal pumps. While both styles produce high flow rates and are rated at high pressures; there are a few differences in the operation and maintenance of each. |
